63 women filed damages lawsuits against the government and two big drug makers over health problems after receiving the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines between 2010 and 2013.
The plaintiffs are aged between 15 and 22 and living in 23 of the country’s 47 prefectures and they are demanding around $9 million combined, with plans to increase the amount later depending on their symptoms.
The women complained that following the vaccinations, they suffered movement and memory disorders as well as other symptoms, including pain all over the body, difficulty in walking and also impaired eyesight, as a result of taking the vaccines that were meant to prevent cervical cancer.
The two drug makers are GlaxoSmithKline PLC of Britain and Merck Sharp & Dohme Corp., a unit of Merck & Co. of the United States according to The Japan Times
Gerdasil is the most dangerous of all vaccines with a big number of deaths and not just in Japan but in Spain, France, India have filed lawsuits against them.
