“Bikes up, Guns Down” has become an annual MLK Day event. “Demonstrators” took to their motor bikes and ATVs and rode through all 3 South Florida counties, supposedly for the cause “bikes up, guns down”. Although billed as a peaceful protest, they caused mayhem and interfered with traffic in many locations. One motorcyclist was injured and taken away by ambulance after he and his bike collided with a car. Florida Highway Patrol and local police agencies monitored the situation but refused to give chase to the riders, citing that they were not committing felonies.
