The largest stone Buddha and by far the tallest pre-modern statue in the world (71m or 233 feet), was idea of a monk the sacrifice his eyeball for this. Because this is the place where 3 rivers meet and it was very dangerous for people to cross them, he thought that this statue will calm the rivers spirit and the rocks that will fall will slow down the speed of rivers. Took 90 years to carve and the monk saves money to build it and when he was asked by authority to give those money he said he will take his eyeball but not the money and when he did it, everybody ran away scared.
